Benefits of Study Groups

12 Apr Benefits of Study Groups

The skill set of a massage therapist is no laughing matter, as there are so many different levels, skills, and overall knowledge that goes into being a professional that does the job right. To learn these skills, practice, practice, and more practice is necessary, as well as a large amount of studying. While studying on your own is extremely important and beneficial, studying in groups or with a partner brings a new level to the learning process that should not be overlooked.

Here are four reasons why you should add study groups to your learning experience:

1. Hands-on Practice

There is only so much learning you can do from books and research! Hands-on practice is one of the best ways to really learn your subject matter, as well as get a real person’s opinion on your techniques. Physically having someone in front of you will help you improve your skills, practice new skills, and experience firsthand what it’s like to be a massage therapist.

2. Reinforce Classroom Learning

Often times, it is very easy to forget the material you learn in the classroom. Going over the material with your classmates will help reinforce what you learned and make it stick in your memory. Groups are also a great way to quickly clear up any confusion you may have been stuck on, as different perspectives and understanding will be shared amongst group members.

3. Change of Pace

Studying can get boring, especially when you are studying by yourself. The monotony of going over material quickly leads to procrastination and distraction. Group study sessions can help change up your normal study routine and make it more enjoyable. Groups also schedule study sessions, so putting it off until later isn’t an option!

4. Make Learning Fun

Studying in a group will not only bring new discussion and life to the material, but also will add a fun social aspect to learning. Learning should be enjoyable, and surrounding yourself with people who are interested in the same topics you are is sure to make studying fun!

Although study groups have their advantages, they may not be for everyone. If you are unsure, try it out and see if it suits your needs. The ultimate goal is to get the most out of your education, whether you are flying solo or joining others.
