As Massage Therapists we see many clients with exercise related injuries. A large percentage of these injuries are preventable as many are due to muscles not being properly warmed up before a workout.
It’s important to incorporate some kind of warm up prior to physical activity even if it’s a simple sun salutation or 10 minute walk.
- Increased body and muscle temperature contribute to smooth movement, reducing risk of strains and sprains
- Creates a more gradual increase in heart rate
- Creates mental awareness that helps to prepare for more vigorous activity
- Improves muscle tissue and tendon elasticity which decreases risk of pulls and tears
At Denver Integrative Massage School we encourage therapists to warm up before and or strengthen in between massage sessions to avoid injury.
